CNC Production Machinist

Tekfor is a precision automotive supplier that manufactures powertrain components. We have a 200-employee high volume forging & machining manufacturing plant with a 3-shift five-day operation.  It is a modest size facility where everyone knows everyone and we are a profitable, successful business, which is growing to meet customer needs.

Experienced CNC Production Machinist to operate CNC Machines for a low volume (300 -7500 parts per job) high part mix of automotive forged steel parts, special prototypes, and select tools for in-house tool room. Position will report to the tool room manager and require set ups, changeovers, machine operation and training a rotation of select machine operators. A typical workday could vary from making a one off prototype sample to running a 7500 piece service order or covering for a toolmaker.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 5 years of experience with CNC turning and machining centers is required
  • Ability to complete a set up and changeover of work center without assistance
  • Accredited training from a trade school and / or vocational or technical program is preferred
  • Experience creating and/or editing G Code programs to produce prototypes or special product launches is preferred
  • Experience in training machine operators in changeover, operation and skill development
  • Experience producing close tolerance tools for tool & die shop or prototypes is preferred
  • Ability to read and use gauges and other inspection measurement equipment correctly and accurately
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented work environment or alone at times
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to adjust  / react to situations driven by automotive customer demand
  • Must be self-directed and require minimal supervision

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operation of assigned work centers at established performance targets (OEE, scrap, etc.)
  • Creates and improves programs on lathes, machining centers
  • Creates, modifies and / or reworks production parts and / or tooling as required
  • Executes and improves setups and changeovers (including changing work holding and cutting tools without supervision)
  • Must adhere to all operator required quality requirements as dictated by our Quality System
  • Performs all required inspections and documents-records their inspection results per requirements
  • Uses SPC, either paper charts or SPC computer system, as required
  • Packages and labels parts correctly per requirements
  • Insures product quality – scrap is being monitored, controlled  and correctly identified
  • Adheres to all required safety practices including use of required PPE (personal protection equipment)
  • Insures all machine safeguards are in place during machine operations.
  • Completes all required documentation and insures their accuracy and timeliness of completion
  • Enters required information into the XPPS system using designated shop floor computer terminals
  • Performs and completes all required preventative maintenance tasks
  • Performs all required housekeeping duties including any required 5S tasks (tap & go)
  • Follow all trained work instructions as required
  • Perform visual inspections as required
  • Trains other employees as assigned
  • Operate robotics if required
